For Immediate Release: Sunu Reew Medical Mission and Aproko Doctor Global Announce Partnership to Advance Public Health Education in The Gambia
Banjul, The Gambia — 21 September 2026
Sunu Reew Medical Mission (SRMM) and Aproko Doctor Global (ADG) have announced a new partnership focused on strengthening public health education and expanding access to trusted, practical, and culturally relevant health information in The Gambia.
The partnership brings together SRMM’s work in medical outreach, health education, professional development, and community-based healthcare with Aproko Doctor Global’s expertise in health communication, public education, digital media, and medical advocacy.
At the heart of the collaboration is a shared belief that improving health outcomes requires more than access to treatment. It also requires people to understand their health, recognise risks earlier, make informed decisions, and receive information in ways that are clear, relatable, and easier to act upon.
“For Sunu Reew Medical Mission, our work has always extended beyond the moments when a doctor and patient meet,” said Victoria Lissong Richards-Ohwotu, Founder and Executive Director of Sunu Reew Medical Mission. “Treating people is essential, but so is giving individuals and families the knowledge they need to understand their health, prevent disease where possible, and seek care earlier. This collaboration allows us to continue building that bridge between healthcare and everyday people.”
Through the partnership, SRMM and Aproko Doctor Global will explore new approaches to delivering public health education across digital platforms, television, radio, community engagement, and other accessible forms of communication. The initiative will also create opportunities to bring healthcare professionals, medical students, community members, and other stakeholders into important conversations around health and prevention.
Initial areas of public health education are expected to include hypertension, diabetes, cervical cancer prevention, HPV awareness, preventive healthcare, and other priority health concerns.
For Aproko Doctor Global, the partnership creates an opportunity to expand the reach of health communication while continuing to make complex medical information easier for wider audiences to understand and use.
“Health information is only truly powerful when people can understand it, trust it, and use it to make better decisions about their health,” said Dr Chinonso Egemba, Founder of Aproko Doctor Global. “At Aproko Doctor Global, we believe in using the power of communication and storytelling to make important health conversations more accessible, relevant and human. Our collaboration with Sunu Reew Medical Mission is an opportunity to take that commitment further in The Gambia and contribute to a stronger culture of health awareness and prevention across African communities.”
The partnership also reflects a broader commitment to strengthening African-led approaches to health communication. By bringing together medical expertise, storytelling, local knowledge, community insight, and public engagement, both organisations intend to develop approaches that do more than simply distribute information. The aim is to make health education more relevant to the communities receiving it and more responsive to the ways people consume and engage with information today.
“This collaboration represents an exciting opportunity to connect credible medical knowledge with the communities that need it most,” said Ethel Neboh, Head of Partnerships at Aproko Doctor Global. “We are particularly interested in creating health education that is not only accurate, but culturally relevant, practical and engaging across the different ways people consume information today. Working alongside Sunu Reew Medical Mission, we hope to build meaningful platforms for better health conversations and support a more informed, proactive approach to healthcare in The Gambia.”
A key part of the collaboration will be learning directly from the people and communities being served. Audience response, community conversations, and insights from healthcare professionals will help both organisations better understand which health topics, communication formats, and approaches resonate most effectively with Gambian audiences.
This creates room for the partnership to evolve alongside the needs of the communities it seeks to reach, while contributing to a wider culture of prevention, earlier health-seeking behaviour, and more informed conversations between healthcare professionals and the public.
Together, Sunu Reew Medical Mission and Aproko Doctor Global envision a long-term relationship that can contribute to stronger health literacy, better-informed communities, and a more proactive approach to health and prevention in The Gambia.
